Biotech is the use of biological systems, such as microorganisms, whole cells or their molecules, to solve problems or to make useful products. Biotech tools such as genetic engineering, recombinant DNA technology, or microbial fermentation are used in today’s highly specialized and sophisticated analytical laboratories. For example, cells from mammals can be genetically engineered to produce a valuable substance; one example is the production of human interferon by genetically engineering Chinese hamster ovary cells. Once purified, the resulting drug is used to treat multiple sclerosis.
Many of our client-companies are biotech firms, either early-stage/emerging growth or established, mature firms. The tools of biotech are many, as are the instrumentation and professional service engagements we have provided to the biotech community nationwide.
